General Hemp Questions

Is it legal to grow hemp?

On December 20, 2018 the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, or 2018 Farm Bill, was signed into law legalizing hemp and its byproducts (1). This has opened the doors for hemp farming, investing in hemp, and the growth of the support network surrounding the industry. While hemp and its byproducts are legal on a federal level, legislation and restrictions still differ from state to state.

What does it cost to grow per acre?

On average, an acre of CBD hemp will cost around $5000-8000 depending on inputs used and drying/curing methods employed.

Do you offer drying services and other assistance?

Yes. We offer end to end solutions for farmers including drying and curing. Please check out the “Services” section on the website for more information.

What is Total THC and how does it affect me?

The molar sum of THC and THCA [tetrahydrocannabinolic acid]. What this means in layman’s terms is that delta-9 THC and THCA (a non-psychoactive precursor to THC) must be taken into account.

On the COA reports provided by your laboratory, there will be a calculation provided that gives you Total THC. This must be under 0.3% in order to be compliant with the 2018 Farm Bill.

However, states like Illinois are ‘delta-9’ states meaning that only the delta-9 THC level is taken into account – THCA is not.

But to be in compliance for interstate commerce, you must adhere to the Total THC requirement.

Seed and Clone Questions

Are your seeds feminized?

Absolutely! For the 2020 season, we are partnering with leading breeders to provide industry-leading 99.98+% feminization rates. 1 in 4000 are phenotypically male despite carrying an XX female genotype and will drop pollen—these should be culled and removed before fully flowering. Our partners are non-GMO, use organic practices whenever possible and are AOSCA certified in many cases.

Are your strains below the Total THC threshold of 0.3%?

When sampled at the appropriate time, all of our varieties of CBD and CBG will pass any state department of agriculture THC requirement. We provide comprehensive SOP’s to help you determine when to harvest and ensure you are under the Total THC threshold.

What is the % CBD of each strain?

This is one of the most common questions and the most difficult to answer when all the possible variables are considered. Everything from your growing technique to nutrients used, down to the drying method and post-harvest handling all factor into total CBD content on a crop-wide average.

A well-grown crop in good conditions (and accurate testing) will yield 10%-12% CBD on whole plant biomass, 12%-14% on shucked flowers, and 14-16% on trimmed flower, with outliers in the low 20% range.

Please keep in mind that working with a certified testing laboratory is key to ensuring you have accurate COA test results.

Will Salient Service work on my mobile device?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. In eget bibendum libero. Etiam id velit at enim porttitor facilisis. Vivamus tincidunt lectus at risus pharetra ultrices. In tincidunt turpis at odio dapibus maximus.

Are your clones ready to be planted immediately?

Our clones will be ‘hardened’ before being made ready for pickup, meaning they have been exposed to natural light outside of the greenhouse for an extended time in order to acclimate them for planting.

Instructions will be provided for further acclimating the clones on your farm.  This will ensure near 100% survival rate and very healthy, high yielding crop for the 2020 season.

What is the benefit of purchasing clones?

Clones are exact replicas genetically of the mother from which they came. This allows for uniform growth and yields.

Benefits include:

  • all are 100% female
  • shorter growing time than seedlings
  • all clones grow the same – strong, prolific and potent
  • much hardier than seedlings
